Trails Retreat
The Trails Retreat is the wilder, more naturalistic part of the garden — a sheltered area of paths and mature trees where the planting is looser and the character is decidedly woodland. The outbuilding sits within or adjacent to this zone, and the grassy paths give it a rambling, exploratory feel.
Plants
| Plant | Type | Season of Interest | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old Hazel (or Crab Apple) | Deciduous tree | Character year-round; catkins/blossom spring; nuts/fruit autumn | → |
Character
The heavy moss and lichen on the old tree indicate a humid, sheltered microclimate and considerable age. A grassy path winds past the tree toward the outbuilding. This is the garden's “breathing space” — less formal, more atmospheric.
Notes
- Explore further — there may be additional plants along the trails not yet photographed
- The dense shrub with multi-stems photographed at 14:15 (possibly large Fuchsia or Forsythia) may be at the boundary between this area and the Monkey Puzzle Strip
